With a hard deadline set for recreational legalization looming in October, producers across the country have stepped up hiring, with an increased focus on corporate and retail staff. New listings are up 17% from the previous month, from 107 new listings per week in June, up to 126 new listings per week in July.
Farming and production
Entry-level production workers remain in high-demand, with growers’ assistants needed at Experion Biotechnologies in Maple Ridge, B.C., at Up Cannabis in Brantford, Ont., and at Canopy Growth Corp in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
Trimmers are needed at Agrima Botanicals in Maple Ridge, B.C., at The Flowr Corporation in Kelowna, B.C., at Canopy Growth Corp in Smiths Falls, Ont., and at The Hydropothecary Corporation in Gatineau, Que., while a processing assistant is needed at AgMedica Bioscience in Chatham-Kent, Ont.
Although not as plentiful as entry-level opportunities, positions for experienced growers and accredited support staff are still to be found.
The Green Organic Dutchman in Ancaster, Ont., is hiring a grower with experience and/or a horticultural degree, and Canopy is hiring a section grower for their facility in Fredericton, N.B., while Canadian Premium Cannabis seeks a master grower to manage over 20,000 square feet of production area at their Ottawa facility.
A general manager is also being sought for Canopy’s facility in Fredericton, while Auxly Cannabis Group seeks an operations/management specialist in Toronto, and Cannabis Compliance Inc seeks a QPIC Lead for their facility in Calgary, Alta.
Sales and distribution
The cannabis retail hiring boom continues from entry-level straight up to regional management.
In telephone sales, Cannabis Compliance Inc is hiring an inside sales rep at their office in Mississauga, Ont., while opportunities are available at Aurora’s call center in Vancouver for a bilingual sales support rep, and for a bilingual registration agent.
Even further afield in the Maritimes, a stock associate position is available at Canopy Growth Corp in St. John’s, Nfld.
Warehouse positions are available at the BC Liquor Distribution Branch in Richmond, B.C., at Broken Coast Cannabis in Duncan, B.C., at Advanced Nutrients in Abbotsford, B.C., and Tilray in London, Ont.
Intermediate and senior retail roles are also in good supply.
Based out of Saskatoon, Sask., a territory sales manager is being sought by Cannica Wholesale Saskatchewan.
Corporate and tech roles
This month saw fewer listings for entry-level corporate positions, but a spate of opportunities in skilled and experienced roles.
Green Planet in Surrey, B.C. needs a creative director with experience in SEO, social media, video production and customer service.
For those with more knowledge than experience, Canopy Growth Corp is hiring a community engagement specialist to deliver presentations and attend community events, as well as a social media and content specialist, with both roles based out of the company’s Toronto office.
An “experience preferred” position is also available as operations coordinator at Canopy’s Toronto office, while Compass Cannabis has an opening for an experienced office manager at their location in Kelowna, B.C.
Executive and administrative assistants are needed throughout British Columbia — on Salt Spring Island at Good Buds, in Victoria at Shelter, and in Vancouver at Abacus North Capital and Aura Cannabis.
In more intermediate and senior marketing roles, Tweed is hiring an associate brand manager at their office in Toronto, and Up Cannabis seeks a key account manager at their Calgary office. In Vancouver, Aurora is hiring a trade marketing manager, and Rouge Media Group seeks a manager of network development.
An accounts payable specialist is needed at Aurora’s Vancouver office, and a certified financial analyst is needed by Quintet Ventures for their office in Toronto, while in human resources, a compensation and benefits specialist is needed at Canopy’s office in Ottawa.
A francophone paralegal is being sought by The Hydropothecary Corporation in Masson-Angers, Que.
In Ontario, a lean manufacturing/Six-Sigma specialist is being sought for Canopy Growth Corp’s flagship location in Smiths Falls, while a government relations associate is needed at Leafly Holdings in Toronto.
This month brought an increase in entry-level clinical service roles by comparison to most months on record.
Multiple patient care reps are needed at Natural Health Services in Calgary, while office assistants are needed at Natural Health Services in Edmonton, at Compass Cannabis in Red Deer, Alta., and at CannaWay Clinics in Brampton, Ont.
Research and laboratory roles
Research has become another booming sector this month, with numerous positions at various levels.
A plant tissue culture technician is needed at Tidal Health Solutions in St. Stephen, N.B., while QA lab technicians are being sought by LBC Studios in Vancouver, by Cannabis Compliance Inc in Calgary, and by Canopy in Smiths Falls, Ont.
Meanwhile a QA manager is being sought by Good Buds Company Inc on Salt Spring Island, B.C.
