JOHANNESBURG – Head of the Cannabis Working Group Andre du Plessis has defended himself saying he lit up and starting smoking a dagga joint on live television this week because his interview on SABC’s Newsroom programme became “too stressful”.

Du Plessis took part in a televised debate and featured as a guest in a Cape Town studio while the host and another guest conducted the show from Johannesburg.

Towards the end of the interview du Plessis lit a joint and blew smoke towards the camera as the host asked if he had any final thoughts.

He says he intended to smoke the dagga after the interview.

“I, like many other South African citizens, do use cannabis and I often have a joint ready with me to help me unwind after the stressful situation of the actual interview. Just at this particular point, the live was far too stressful you know.”
